My Travel Story

by: Caitlyn Murakami Start Date: Jun 17, 2018 - End Date: May 7, 2019
Hello, my name is Caitlyn Murakami.
I’m currently a high school student going into my junior year of high school, and I’m very devoted to my studies. As someone who is half Korean and half Japanese, I never felt fully connected to either of my cultures as I’ve never been fully exposed to either of them. Korea has always been something close to my heart, with my parents being divorced and growing up with my mother, who is Korean.
Studying abroad in Korea will not only allow me to broaden my horizons and gain cultural and language experience that would be useful for me in the future, but allow me to feel more connected with my own culture. I plan on majoring in international business and marketing in college, and being bilingual (hopefully trilingual, I take Spanish in school!) as well as having a a secular view of the world will aid me in becoming successful in my career.
I have visited Korea before, but spending the entire summer there with a Korean family will really allow me to get personal and up close view of how Korean citizens are instead of from the viewpoint as a tourist.
I plan on applying for the Langubridge Korea study abroad program for six weeks next summer, and in that time hope to become fluent in korean as I can already speak and understand it, just not to the point of fluency. I’m a passionate art student as well, and hope to take inspiration from my travels to put into my art and photography work! The two pictures shown in my campaign are images I took when I was in korea for a short time.
The money donated would go towards airfare and the overall tuition of the program, which is roughly $6,500. While I am currently searching for a job to pay for it, I would appreciate any help I can get, because $6.5k for my parents to pay is not a small price!
I apologize for the long post, but I hope you can find it in your heart to help me learn more about my culture, my language, and help me with my future as a businesswoman as well. If I do go, I will be updating all my social media about my endeavors in Korea, and maybe (MAYBE) making a youtube channel as well. Thank you!!
