My Travel Story

by: Meryeme Khaldoune Start Date: Dec 13, 2025 - End Date: Feb 13, 2026
My name is Meryeme Khaldoune, a 20-year-old Moroccan student with a deep passion for the ocean and marine conservation. Although my academic background is in business studies, my long-term goal is to transition into oceanography and marine biology, with a strong focus on hands-on conservation work and community impact.

I have applied to the CBMWC marine conservation volunteering program, which focuses on field research, ecosystem monitoring, and community-based marine protection. This program represents a crucial step in my journey, as it will allow me to gain practical experience in marine conservation while contributing meaningfully to the protection of fragile coastal ecosystems. I am currently awaiting final acceptance and preparing the necessary support to participate if selected.

This experience would have a direct impact on my education and future career. It would help me develop essential field skills, strengthen my understanding of marine ecosystems, and build a solid foundation for a career dedicated to ocean conservation. As a young African woman entering an underrepresented field, access to real-world experience is especially important.

Beyond personal growth, this project is about giving back. Through this volunteering experience, I aim to support conservation efforts that benefit local communities and promote sustainable relationships between people and the ocean. I am committed to sharing what I learn, raising awareness about marine protection, and using this experience to inspire future conservation initiatives.

I chose this destination and program because of their strong emphasis on community involvement, environmental responsibility, and practical learning. Being able to learn directly from the field, alongside experienced conservationists, is an opportunity that cannot be replaced by theory alone.

Coming from a developing country, covering program fees, travel, and basic living costs independently is a significant challenge. Your support would not only help make this experience possible, but also contribute to empowering a young student determined to build a future dedicated to protecting our oceans.

In return, I commit to sharing regular updates, photos, and reflections throughout my journey, as well as a final report highlighting the impact of the program and the role your support played in making it possible.

Thank you for believing in my journey and for supporting ocean conservation through education and action.
