My Travel Story

by: Nikolett Kaló Start Date: Jul 14, 2022 - End Date: Apr 13, 2023
Hi there:) my name is Niki, I'm from Hungary and I'm a 16 years old high school student. I am currently in 10th grade, but in 11th (2023-24) I would like to spend a year in America as an exchange student, (before I move there.) It's my dream since 7th grade to being an exchange student. It would be amazing if I could spend a year in America, because I can get to know the country up close and the language.I am aware that this is not a vacation and I would study hard and take on the responsibilities that come with it. I've been learning English for a few years now, but I hardly had the chance to use it. Therefore I joined an organization dealing with exchange students as a volunteer in 7th grade and so I can help students coming to Hungary. My parents are supporting the idea of studying abroad because this way I will be able to pass a C1 Advanced language exam and be more open to the world and of course it's a unforgettable experience. It would be very useful for my future too, because I want to continue studying art at a university especially animation (I'm currently studying graphics at an art high school but I deal with animation every day) and, if I learn how to speak english correctly and confidently in this one year, I will have a chance to enter an art university later. (because Hungarian education is not famous form english teaching or its animation career)

But the prices of these programs are way too expensive for us. Even before the COVID, it was quite a lot of money, but now it has almost doubled(especially because of inflation, which affected Hungary very badly) and now I am in despair because we certainly can't pay this anymore. I search all the organizations that would take me to America, but one is more expensive than the other, and there is only one almost free program (FLEX) but they chose 14 students last year and only 10 the year before, so the chances of me being selected are pretty low, and I don't want my future to depend on it. But I'll definitely take a chance hoping for the best.

If you decide to donate to me, then I will be forever grateful to you, even the smallest amounts help a lot!
