My Travel Story

As a nursing student at Conestoga College, I have been accepted to participate in one of their leadership building volunteer programs for an eco-agriculture conservation project with local farmers at a macadamia nut farming community.
The trip is part of the leadership development programming offered by Conestoga Students Inc. (CSI), the college’s student association, to provide students with an opportunity to volunteer abroad and experience a new culture.
The CSI leadership development program help students learn specific strategies to advance their leadership skills within the college and in the community. With this experience, I believe it will compliment my nursing profession through cultural exposure.

The co-operative that I will be volunteering with was set up with the help of a non-profit organization that focuses on economic development and sustainable agriculture in Guatemala. The farmers all work between one and seven acres of land that they themselves own.
