My Travel Story

Hello! My name is Linden, and I'm a junior at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. Thanks for checking out my fundraiser! As the title says, I'm trying to study abroad in Amman, Jordan for the fall semester of 2021. For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to serve my country as a diplomat. In order to do so most effectively and with consideration and respect for other ways of living, worldviews, and perspectives on security, however, I believe it's important for me to learn through immersion--not just a textbook. 

Living in Jordan and studying geopolitics with scholars and professionals from the Middle East would give me the opportunity to do just that. Jordan is politically unique, serving as peacemaker while also confronting the challenges posed by a changing world. Learning more about the country’s politics, as well as increasing my fluency in Arabic through a homestay with a Jordanian family, would be an important step for me toward my dream of being a Foreign Service Officer.

Unfortunately, finding the money for traveling is difficult. One of my family's breadwinners was laid off from their retail job due to COVID and we're working hard to make ends meet. What was already a large expense just got considerably more prohibitive. I know that the pandemic is affecting everyone but, if you're in a position to lend a hand, I would be extremely grateful if you could help make this dream of mine a reality.
