My Travel Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page.

My name is Chloe, I'm a 19 year old psychology student in my second year at the University of Sheffield.

On the 2nd July I will be travelling to Bali, Indonesia for 4 weeks with SLV Global, a volunteer organisation that focuses on global mental health and provides volunteers with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in this sector. Their priority is to help the communities with which we will be working, within which there is a distinct lack of understanding about mental health issues and few facilities where people can seek treatment if they need it.

I will work alongside other volunteers in Bali's only inpatient psychiatric facility and assist the team by running therapeutic activities for service users. I will also teach English to students at a school or people from the local community to provide them with better career prospects and increased confidence. I will work in facilities for children from difficult backgrounds, helping them to socialise in alternative and creative ways. And finally, I will work with a number of schools and initiatives for those with specific needs, like autism or brain injury, to help unlock their potential through a combination of physical and mental activities.

This unique opportunity will help me build upon the knowledge I have already gained from studying psychology at university, while gaining hands on experience and gaining new skills that will prove invaluable for my future career.

The placement is voluntary and unpaid, with additional costs. Therefore, I am asking friends and family, and anyone else who would be kind enough to support me, to help me along by donating. Any amount is very much appreciated, thank you!
