Stepping into the World: My First Journey Outside of Japan
My Travel Story
I have recently graduated university and I’m incredibly excited (and a little nervous!) to be embarking on my first journey outside of Japan. A working holiday in France!
This experience is more than just travel for me. It’s an opportunity to find a new part of myself and immerse myself in something new, experience culture, improve my language skills, and take a huge step toward my dream of connecting Japan and France through education and cultural exchange.
Why France?
France has always fascinated me. From its rich history and vibrant art scene to the everyday charm of its cafés and streets, I’ve been drawn to the country for as long as I can remember. I’ve studied European history, taken French courses, and made French-speaking friends, but no amount of books or classes can compare to actually living there.
This trip is my chance to experience France firsthand—to work, explore, and learn in ways that will shape my future.
What I Plan to Do:
Unlike a typical study abroad program, my working holiday will be all about hands-on experiences. I’ll be:
✔️ Working in local businesses to support myself and practice real-world French.
✔️ Exploring historical sites to deepen my knowledge of France’s past.
✔️ Connecting with people to share aspects of Japanese culture and learn from theirs.
✔️ Improving my language skills through daily interactions and immersion.
Why This Means So Much to Me:
Growing up in a single-parent household, international travel always felt like a distant dream. My mom has worked incredibly hard to support me, but ever since COVID, her job has been unstable, making this kind of opportunity even harder to achieve. Despite these challenges, I’ve never stopped dreaming of exploring the world, and this is my first chance to do so.
This isn’t just about seeing France. it’s about proving to myself that I can step out of my comfort zone, grow as a person, and build a future where I can share my experiences to help others who dream of doing the same.
Why I Need Your Help:
I’m doing everything I can to fund this experience through work, but covering all the costs. flights, accommodations, and daily living expenses is a big challenge. Unfortunately, most of my savings has gone into my health insurance, flight ticket and getting a driver's license.
