My Travel Story

by: Zachary Cavell Start Date: Jan 10, 2013 - End Date: Apr 28, 2013

I am very interested in working with Hispanic populations in developing countries. This past summer I spent over five weeks in Peru working in a health clinic, a hospital, and in the community providing medical care to impoverished Peruvians. I was very touched by how grateful they were for what I did for them. It was such a rewarding experience.

I plan to return to South America to work more in the healthcare setting, possibly with Doctors without Borders. I would like to be well educated  about the problems that affect people in these countries so that I can provide them better care. I want to participate in this program in Ecuador so that I can continue to learn about the numerous problems that people face in a developing countries. I would also like to use this program to improve my Spanish language skills. I plan to get my first job as a nurse in a large city and I know that the ability to communicate in Spanish, especially medical terminology, is an invaluable.

I feel that this program can provide me with a good education to help me achieve my goals of providing healthcare to Hispanic populations in developing countries. I also know that it can be uncomfortable working and living in a developing country but I believe the rewards of helping others greatly outweigh any discomfort on my part. The only problem for me is funding my travel and that is why I am asking for financial assistance. I would be very grateful for any assistance that you can provide to help me participate in this program. Thanks!

Hey everybody, I hope you are doing well! I'm getting ready for my trip and am very excited to be leaving in just a couple weeks but am still hard pressed for money. I just had to pay $200 for my travel vaccinations out of pocket. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
