I was accepted to the College Year in Athens program for a dig in Antiparos, Greece ! It's a dream come true, but it is an expensive dream. This dig will give me experience I need to continue studying archaeology at the graduate level. It would be a great way to get my hands dirty (literally) and would be a big step towards my goals of becoming an archaeologist! I will be working to recover artifacts from the ancient sanctuary city and learning archaeological methods of analysis and cataloguing. I would also be getting an idea of archaeolgical theory and how it is applied in the real world. I've always been a tad obsessed with ancient Greece so this dig is really going to be fulfilling some childhood dreams! If you can donate, I would really appreciate it!

    Ugly hats are archaeologist culture
So I just spent 30 minutes photoshopping myself into this ugly hat to give you all a little taste of how I'll look this summer. Say goodbye to the high maintenance Zandra you've all known and tolerated before and say hello to super chill archaeologist Zandra who cares about utility over appearance.

Big thanks to everyone who has donated! I'm so grateful to have such generous and kind family and friends!
  • Archaeology Is All About Sifting

    archaeology is all about sifting
Yes, this meme format is outdated and I know that. But it turns out archaeologists really aren't that funny so this is the best we can do...

In the last part of the image, they're dry sifting which is a method of collecting artifacts from dirt by allowing finer things (like dirt) to fall through the screen, leaving bigger things on top. If it seems like a super old fashioned way of doing things you're right! It's been a method for a very long time simply because it works best! Personally I'm very pumped to get sifting muscles
