My Travel Story

by: Jerica Holmes Start Date: Apr 17, 2024 - End Date: May 16, 2024
I am reaching out for help to anyone who is willing and able to assist me in regaining what I hold dearest—my son. As a single mom tirelessly working multiple jobs while managing school and a new business, I find myself overwhelmed, but I am fueled by both gratitude and a desperate need to reunite with my child.
Eight months ago, my son, battling severe behavioral issues and amidst the throes of adolescence, chose to visit to meet with his biological father—a man who, despite his absence throughout my son’s life, suddenly became the figure my son yearned for. Against my better judgment but respecting my son’s wishes, I allowed him to move nine hours away. Tragically, this decision spiraled into my current predicament.

A month after he left, while working relentlessly, I fell asleep at the wheel, just a block from home, totaling my car and straining my finances further. This accident happened just as my son’s father began exploiting my situation, refusing to return him despite my having residential custody.

My son, who requires special educational accommodations and medication for ADHD, PTSD, and ODD, is now without his essential support, thrown into school withdrawal by a father who dismisses his needs. My efforts to address this through legal channels have stalled due to financial constraints, exacerbated by a taxing audit that has withheld my refunds.

With every passing day, I lose a piece of myself, missing moments in my son’s life that I can never get back. Despite the relentless struggle, I am ready to reclaim my son. I have the necessary documents, a reliable vehicle, and my bags packed. What I lack is the financial means to cover the journey.

Here’s a breakdown of the estimated costs for retrieving my son:

• Gas: Approximately $240 for four tanks
• Hotel: $180-$300, depending on the duration (3-4 nights)
• Food: Around $200 for meals on the road

Total estimated costs: $740

Any assistance, whether financial or simply sharing my story with someone you may think could help, would mean the world to me. Your support can help end this painful chapter and bring my son home, where he belongs. Thank you for considering my plea and may you and yours be blessed.
