My Travel Story

by: Shelby Bursott Start Date: Apr 29, 2023 - End Date: Aug 28, 2023
This summer I will embark on a volunteer trip to Tanzania, Africa, to work with the Maasai Tribe, specifically focusing on supporting women and the children.
The Maasai people are one of the most well-known ethnic groups in Africa, famous for their distinctive clothing, beaded jewelry, and pastoral lifestyle. They live in remote areas of Tanzania and Kenya, and their traditional way of life has been impacted by modernization and climate change. This volunteer trip provides an opportunity to learn about their culture, connect with the people, and make a positive difference in their lives.
My work will involve helping to support women and children in the Maasai Tribe. This may include teaching basic literacy skills, providing healthcare education, organizing community development projects, and assisting with childcare. I'll also help with daily tasks such as cooking and cleaning, and participate in cultural activities such as learning traditional dances and crafts.
I'll be based in a rural area and will have the opportunity to experience daily life in the Maasai village. This will give a unique insight into the community's customs and traditions.
This volunteer trip is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in international development, meet like-minded individuals from around the world, and make a real impact in the lives of the Maasai people.
Any and all donations are going straight to these villages and children! If I have enough, I have a unique opportunity to help sponsor a kid in need and get them into primary school! I will post and keep everyone updated on this journey.
Help contribute to a meaningful cause!
