My Travel Story

by: FMT User Start Date: Oct 17, 2017 - End Date: Jan 4, 2018
As a sophomore at Towson University, my career path is still not clear, however I do feel that part of reaching my career goals and gaining clarity around this involves pushing myself out of my comfort zone, as well as broadening my perspective of the world. In order to do this, I think the opportunity to travel outside of the United States will open my eyes to some of the conflict, as well as the communication challenges other cultures face. Towson's minimester study abroad program that takes place throughout January 2018 in Scotland includes a course focusing on Identity, Expression, and Social Action. This course not only is a class that counts towards my major, but one that is relevant to many of my interests. Some of these interests include; traveling, learning about cultural differences, gaining historical knowledge and learning about social dynamic in other countries. As a communications major, these topics couldn't be a better fit, and this trip will challenge me at an international level.
With this aspiration in mind, I have been working as a part-time employee at Towson while balancing my responsibilities as a women’s soccer player and full-time student. Balancing these roles and thinking about the financial commitment for this study abroad experience is challenging but I am driven, resourceful, and want to do everyting I can to make this work. I believe this experience is important and necessary for my growth as a student and as a person, but I know I have to find my own way to make this happen. So for those who are reading this and want to support me I say thank you so very much for helping me fund something that I feel will truly be a great learning experience for me.
