My Travel Story
1. How will this impact your education or career?
While this experience might be short, it will provide valuable lessons in responsibility, empathy, and hands-on care that can shape my future. Working with animals, especially in a different country, will deepen my understanding of animal welfare, which I could apply in future career paths related to animal care, veterinary science, or nonprofit work. I’ll also learn how to work with diverse teams and communities, skills that will be useful in any field, especially if I pursue a career that combines my love for animals with a global perspective.
2. How will you make a difference in the community?
In South Korea, there are many animal shelters and organizations focused on improving the lives of stray dogs, especially those that have faced neglect or abuse. By volunteering for two weeks, I can contribute to these efforts by providing direct care to the dogs, helping with feeding, cleaning, walking, and socializing them. My presence and work will support the mission of these organizations, and hopefully, through the care I provide, I can help these dogs become more adoptable and happier in their environment. Even in two weeks, I can make a meaningful difference by offering my time and love to animals in need.
3. Why are you passionate about this project?
I’ve always had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, and I’ve dreamed of helping them in any way I can. Volunteering in South Korea will allow me to combine my passion for animals with my desire to make a tangible impact. I want to help dogs who have faced difficult circumstances, whether they’ve been abandoned, neglected, or mistreated. Knowing that I can be part of their journey toward better lives fills me with purpose. The opportunity to make a difference, even in a short amount of time, is something I truly value.
4. Why did you choose this destination?
South Korea is home to many animal welfare organizations, some of which focus specifically on rescuing stray dogs and improving their lives. While South Korea is often known for its bustling cities and technology, there is also a growing awareness and movement toward better treatment of animals, and I want to contribute to that change. Additionally, volunteering in South Korea will allow me to experience the culture in a meaningful way by connecting with both the animals and the people working to improve their welfare.
5. What makes this meaningful for you?
This experience is deeply meaningful to me because it combines two things I care about: travel and animals. It’s an opportunity to do something I love while helping those who are most vulnerable—dogs who have been abandoned or mistreated. Even in two weeks, I hope to make a real difference in their lives. It’s a chance for me to give back in a way that aligns with my values, and it will give me memories and lessons that I’ll carry with me for a lifetime. Plus, spending time with dogs will be incredibly rewarding and will allow me to bond with them, offering them comfort, love, and attention in a time of need.
