Nurse Mission backpack trip to Kenya!
My Travel Story
When stumbling upon the mission trips, my heart felt like it was going to blow into a thousand pieces, and I started crying. I knew this was it, this was what I had been waiting for my WHOLE life. My chance to finally able to give back to the community that I had so desperately longed to help for so many years. Now, as a nurse and having the ability to put their needs above my own, to provide compassion, empathy and to bring medical care and understanding to this broad culture of people who deserved it the most during some of their weakest moments.
My “personal mission” for volunterring in Kenya as a nurse, is a mission to show that if we can join as one with love, respect, humility, compassion, and share the fire in our hearts that calls us to do good for others; We can simply do anything. It is not simply a mission for me, it is a mission for the people.
However, I believe my personal mission is to establish lifelong bonds, to share a love and passion for helping each other spiritually and medically while learning our uniqueness and difference in cultures. Learning and adapting to these culture changes plays a drastic importance in the health care that we as nurses can provide. We must be able to connect with patients on a close, personal level to provide the utmost medical care that respects traditions and beliefs.
To become one, together, even for a short time.
This trip provides so many opportunities for both cultures. As nurses, we get the chance to fulfill our calling as nurses and have the ability and privileges to provide essential medical care, and to educate families on preventative healthcare to prevent future illness.
Since I was a little girl, helping others was born and bred deep into my heart and soul. It was as if a fire burned inside me, I knew I had a purpose, and that was to help others. Becoming a nurse was my goal in life and how I chose to fulfill my passion for helping others.
Nursing is a unique career.
Some days you cry tears of joy and some days you cry tears of sadness and some days you laugh and cry at the same time.
Whether you cry, laugh, or do both.
Both of those days, you poured every ounce of love, faith and commitment into that patient and their family.
Life has a way of working out when you’ve chosen this path you were called on.
