Help Fund My Intensive Language Study Abroad!
My Travel Story
Hello! My name is Chloe or also known as Hui, and I am a third-year visual communications and film/media arts student at the University of South Carolina.
This June 2023, I have been accepted into a Korean intensive summer language program in Cheongju, South Korea, where I will be able to dedicate an entire summer to studying Korean while being even more immersed in the culture compared to my previous study abroad. Ever since I found my lifelong passion in the arts, design, and film, South Korea has been growing exponentially in those fields and gaining global recognition - it has quickly become one of my greatest inspirations to not only find my own artistic identity but surround myself with similar creatives that also share cultural similarities and values, while deepening the understanding between Western and Eastern cultures through cross-cultural exchanges such as language study or noting the differences in artistic expression and how culture affects that. During my first time abroad, I was able to create a short film that later became a top 30 finalist out of 806 entries at a film festival held in Seoul, and I would like to continue growing that creative potential. That being said, I have begun drafting a creative arts project proposal for a postgraduate program that would take place in Korea as well, but to be better prepared and competitive for that program, I need to be more fluent in Korean. I have taken all of the Korean courses my university offers, so I have no better resources than this program at this point in my language acquisition journey.
I am extremely excited, but unfortunately, I did not receive enough financial aid to cover my program costs and I still have a flight ticket to cover. All of the funding raised from this campaign will be used to cover the remaining program costs not covered by financial aid, my flight ticket there and back, food, and in-country transportation costs.
If you have known me over the years, you know I have not been one to ask for much but rather struggle in asking for help as I typically do everything on my own. I am also the oldest of 4 children and wish to cover my activities as much as I can to not financially burden my parents. Thankfully, I have been motivated by friends to open this campaign to help me go back to Korea! I truly felt I was the best version of myself when I was abroad and I would love to continue honing that to be a better person not only to myself but to all of those I interact with, especially as I gain a broader perspective on the world. You can read some of my experiences in the blog I have linked below under "The CIC Travels".
This program is a step higher in my career advancement, and any donation big or small is greatly appreciated. Also, if you would like to support me further, I am open for art commissions or any freelance design. My portfolio is linked here; please feel free to look through the sections to get to know me better as an artist and as a person. If you are interested, please use the contact tab on the site or message me if you have me on social media! You can also email me directly at cnphui@gmail.com. We can discuss details and pricing further after contact.
Thank you so much for all of your time!
