My name is Hallie Cole and I’m currently a freshman in high school. I have recently been told of an amazing opportunity to travel abroad with the non profit organization, American Field Service (or AFS), next year. I have my hopes set on participating in a semester-long program in Argentina, where I will attend a local high school and live with host parents. I have had a long term goal of becoming a travelling journalist when I grow up and I truely think that this trip will benefit me in more ways than one, for I can broaden my language skills, better my self management, and get an actual taste of what it is like to completely immerse oneself in a different culture. This trip will also provide a much higher education in terms of cultural interaction and there is no better way to learn about a country than to visit it.

I have been taking Spanish for nine years, but I am far from being as fluent as I wish to be. It's said that living in a non-English speaking country is much more benefitial and effective than taking a language class at a school or at home because one can

With being so young, it has been difficult to find ways of funding for the program. For the past year or so, I have been searching for part time jobs to help pay, but many stores and businesses are unable to provide work someone under 16. That being said, I am aware that even if I do manage to find work, I still will not be able to completely afford the program. Participating in this study abroad program is practically a dream of mine and it would mean the world to me if I was able to fundraise even a portion of the program fee!

No matter how big or small the donation, please know that I am truly thankful for your contribution!
