My Travel Story

by: Kumara Rathnayaka Start Date: Feb 12, 2025 - End Date: Jun 11, 2025
Hello everyone! I’m excited to share that I’m planning an incredible trip to Sigiriya, one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks. Sigiriya is not only a UNESCO World Heritage site but also an ancient marvel of architecture and history. I’m raising funds to make this dream a reality and immerse myself in the beauty of this stunning place.

Why Sigiriya?
Sigiriya, also known as the Lion’s Rock, is an awe-inspiring fortress built atop a massive rock plateau. It holds a rich history, with remnants of a royal palace and breathtaking frescoes. The experience of climbing the rock, exploring the gardens, and learning about the fascinating history of the area will be an unforgettable adventure.

How You Can Help
I’m reaching out to my friends, family, and supporters to help me cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and local experiences in Sigiriya. Any contribution, big or small, will go directly towards making this trip a reality, and I’ll be sure to share updates and pictures along the way so you can be part of this journey!

Sigiriya, also known as the "Lion's Rock," is a magnificent ancient fortress in Sri Lanka, standing 200 meters above the surrounding jungle. Built in the 5th century by King Kashyapa, it served as a royal capital. The site is renowned for its stunning frescoes, the imposing Lion’s Gate, and its advanced water management system, featuring fountains, pools, and reservoirs that still function today. Nearby, the Pidurangala Rock offers panoramic views of Sigiriya and the surrounding area. In addition to Sigiriya, the ruins of the ancient Piduru Hena (Palas Ruins) can also be found nearby, adding to the area's historical significance. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, Sigiriya is a captivating fusion of history, art, engineering, and nature, attracting visitors worldwide.
