My Travel Story

by: Lucy Farquhar Start Date: Jul 17, 2024 - End Date: Jun 11, 2025
My name is Lucy and I am 24 year old student - I currently study Animal Management at Level 3 at East Durham College which I absolutely love. I have loved this course so much that I am extending it for another year, starting again in September 2024. This will give me a ' Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Animal Management'.

At the end of this course in June 2025, there is an opportunity to travel to Costa Rica for a 'Marine and Terrestrial Wildlife Conservation' trip. This is an official study trip, and has been put together by an amazing company called 'Flooglebinder' who are a certified Bcorp and Travel Life partner company. Flooglebinder create sustainable adventures that allow students to delve deeper into real life conservation projects and gain invaluable hands-on experience. The following link shows the Costa Rica trip in more detail, as well as provide more information about this wonderfull company - https://flooglebinder.co.uk/costa-rica

Alongside my studies I also worked part-time and have funded some of my trip so far. I have unfortunately had to leave work temporarily due to my physical and mental health. I would hate to miss this opportunity and the chance to take part in things such as sea turtle tracking and hatching, planting saplings and monitoring tree nurseries, biodiversity monitoring, and much more. The trip is split into 4 sections: Sea Turtle conservation, elological restoration, avian and amphibian project, and a cloud forest trip with adventure opportunities.

This trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity and would open many doors for my future career in Animal Management which I am incredibly passionate about. To understand and help local areas and species can make a great difference to communities, and I would love the opportunity to be a part of this.

I understand the cost of living has had a huge impact on everyone, and to ask for donations in such a trying time isn't ideal - so anything is greatly appreciated, even a share! Please feel free to ask me any questions regarding the trip, especially if you are hesitant on donating!

    Flooglebinder
I just wanted to do a little update so I could give a shout out to everyone at the Flooglebinder company! A little bit about Flooglebinder (which is the company that have planed this amazing experience) - they are an official certified B Corp and Travel Life partnered company. Their study trips are carefully designed to encourage young people to work their personal development and push boundaries. These trips are tailor-made (and this one in particular has been tailor made to the animal management students of East Durham College) yet always include sustainability, conservation and wellness. All of their trips are aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Founders Ian and Brad know how many individuals there are out there with a desire to create change: that’s why they started Flooglebinder. Having already experienced the dedicated care, thought, and planning that has went into the Costa Rica Conservation trip, I feel so confident in this company and can't wait for the opportunity to learn from them. All members have been so lovely, caring, and considerate - a big thank you to everyone at Flooglebinder!
