My Travel Story

by: Ava Mendoza Start Date: Mar 24, 2024 - End Date: May 12, 2024
My name is Ava Mendoza.  I am a full-time student at Montana State University currently pursuing degrees in both K-8 Education and Psychology.  When I am not working on my academics, you can find me working as a pre-school gymnastics coach and a K-12 tutor in mathematics and english reading/writing.  I am extremely passionate about supporting the youth of today, and I believe there is no better way to do so than becoming an educator.
After researching many programs, I found IVHQ.  This organization offers an array of volunteer programs, including the Childcare Teaching Project in the Philippines.  During my three weeks as a volunteer in Tigman Village, located on the island of Palawan, I will work five days a week alongside local educators teaching basic school cirriculum to the children.  Since I plan to concentrate on Early Childhood Education within my education degree, this experience will allow me to explore the field while exploring what it means to be an educator in the intimate classrooms of rural towns/villages.
The total cost of this adventure is $2,743 ($1,690 for flights, $329 for Registration Support Services pre and post program, and $724 for three weeks of accommodations).  However, I am only asking for support on the price of flights and accommodations ($2,414).  Whether you decide to donate towards my flights and fees or you are here to follow my journey in support, I am extremely grateful; you too are helping change the lives of the Filipino kiddos in Tigman Village!
