Help Nurse April Study Abroad!
My Travel Story
My name is April and I am currently working as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. I am working 2 jobs and going to school full time. I am back in school working towards finishing my Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing and Anthropology. I have always dreamed of studying abroad and found an excellent program through Arizona State University. I will be traveling to Europe to study the following topics;
Cultural Aspects of Food; This program will allow students to experience real world examples of cultural food variations in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway from both a current day and historical perspective. Experiencing these climates will allow students to evaluate food availability and how this relates to nutrition and food choices. Comparison of these scenarios in Scandinavia and specifically with the Sami culture to their hometown environment will allow students understand the impact in various cultural aspects (religion, ethnicity, availability) allowing students to develop empathetic and practical guidance to patients or clients in their chosen careers.
Health Risks and Healthcare in Denmark, Sweden and Norway; This program will allow students to investigate real world examples of how lifestyle, nutrition, climate and available healthcare options influence disease risk in Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Students will be able to evaluate the medical facilities and programs in these countries and compare them to what we have in the United States. Traditional healthcare of the Sami population will be investigated as well. In experiencing these systems first hand, students will be able to evaluate benefits and shortcomings to healthcare systems from a cultural perspective.
I feel that this experience will help me reach my educational goals and I will gain a lot of insight to my future career. I am dedicated to this field and any experience or training I receive will help me become a better public servant in the medical field.
Thank You All For Your Time and Kind Donations!
XOXOXO

Program Confirmed!
This morning I received an e-mail confirming our trip and permission to book flights into Denmark to begin our journey. It looks like there will be 10 students (minimum requirement) going on this program. I'm really excited and a little nervous to meet up with strangers in Europe and travel around Scandinavia! -
Class Registration!
I have registered for my necessary classes through ASU. I have posted a link to the exact program page and cost sheet. This is expensive for one trip but I know it will be well worth the experience and knowledge I gain during the 3 week study intensive.
