My Travel Story

Greetings,

                  My name is Tyler-Nicholas; I have been selected to represent the state of Virginia while wrestling on the 2023 Virginia National Team at two separate events. These events are competitions in the Olympic Styles of Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. I will compete for Virginia in Indiana at the National Duals against teams from 35 other states. After that I will return home and train hard for a month and then travel to Fargo, North Dakota on July 19-23 to wrestle for the Virginia National Team at the ASICS/VAUGHAN Junior & Cadet National Wrestling Championships against wrestlers from all 50 states. This is the largest and one of the most prestigious wrestling tournaments in the world.

                  This upcoming year  I will be  entering the 12th grade at Cosby HS. I will finish this year with a 3.8 grade point average in a very challenging honors curriculum. I also competed as a varsity wrestler starting at 182 and now 190 pounds. The season was both challenging and rewarding. I was able to win in the Regional Tournament and competed in the 2023 State Championship. I have placed at several other tournaments, attended collegiate camps, and trained with the best teams around. 

                 After a very intensive and unexpected medical situation several years ago, I assumed my dreams were void. I am thankful for that journey and now able to say that wrestling takes the place of  being one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life. Through these experiences I have learned discipline, self-motivation, commitment and the rewards of sacrifice and hard work. My ultimate goal is to wrestle in college and start a career in Engineering. The experience on the Virginia National Wrestling Team will help me learn the discipline and commitment needed to achieve these goals.

                  Today I would like to ask for your support towards my cost of competing for Virginia at these events. The cost to compete on the Virginia National Team is almost $3,500.  This cost covers my travel, lodging, meals, equipment package and Virginia National Team Training camp expenses.  I hope to raise these funds on or before the week of June 20, 2023.  All donations are tax deductible. In these demanding economic times I can assure you that any and all donations are greatly appreciated.  I will do my best to represent you, and the state of Virginia with my efforts at the national wrestling tournaments.
