Hello, my name is Pooja Patel. I am a recent graduate of the University of Kentucky. I have been given a wonderful opportunity that will impact my future as an attorney. I have been given the opportunity to study abroad in three countries with just one program. The Lex Fellowship is a pre-law based program that helps the chances of getting into law school for students who want to go to law school. The Lex Fellowship is a program that will impact both, my education and career. This impacts my education as it will increases my chances of being a law student at universities that I apply to as it will look unique. Law schools look at many aspects on the applications that are being submitted, and this program would make my application look unique. The Lex Fellowship is a program that thousands of students apply to and only 15-20 students get to go per program. This impacts my career as I will visit a variety of different law firms and legal institutions, explore and analyze real cases, gain a network of peer and professional contacts, receive training and mentorship from our Legal Associate and explore a new city. I will be making a difference in the community by giving to people about the experience that I learn about. My legal skills can help in many ways. I can help local nonprofit groups, entrepreneurs, doctors, businesses, and many more. For example, I can help entrepreneurs establish their businesses on a sound footing by assisting them in developing business plans, launching marketing campaigns, and adopting solid accounting practices from the corporate legal skills that I learn. Moreover, I want to be able to help people pro-bono which would make a huge difference in the community as many people may not be able pay for legal services. Law is my passion. I am passionate about this fellowship because it is a law-based program. There are not many law-based study abroad programs out there for students to participate in before going to law school. I was and am always looking for opportunities to enhance my knowledge with law before going into law school. My passion for law is beyond the consideration but it branches from the severe immoralities and biases established in the society that we live in, and how the law is a key implement in correcting same. I choose the location of England, Italy, and Spain because it is a part of Europe that I have always wanted to go. I like traveling, and I made the start of the journey last summer. I went to the Netherlands as it was funded for me with the TRIO program and through the funds of the University of Kentucky. I have also wanted to go and see the world, and there is no better way to travel at this age while studying and enhancing my knowledge for my education and career. This is a big opportunity for me. This trip would be meaningful for me because I get to travel the world while learning about law as it is my passion. I have not decided on what specialty of law to do, and this trip will be a factor when I make my decision. Studying abroad is a life-changing experience to me because I get exposed to many factors in life being there instead of being in the USA. Not to mention, my global skills sharpen as well as accessing personal and professional opportunities. This would be meaningful for me as I would like to pay for this study abroad program through funds and the help of others. Study abroad is a life-changing experience for many students, like me, opening my eyes to different ways of life and promoting understanding and tolerance.
