Dear Friends, 
I am reaching out to share my journey and seek your support as I embark on a life-changing opportunity. I am the third-born child from Barkowino, a small village in Siaya County, Kenya. Growing up as a partial orphan has taught me resilience and determination. My family relies on our talented sister, a tailor, and my father, a laborer. Education has always been my beacon of hope, and I have worked tirelessly to excel in my studies. 
 
Thanks to a scholarship from our constituency development fund, I attended high school, where I graduated with an A plain. This achievement opened doors I never thought possible. After applying to universities, I received a scholarship to New York University Shanghai! I am set to report on October 26th, but I hope to arrive earlier to acclimate to my new environment. 
This opportunity will significantly impact my education and career. Studying at NYU Shanghai will provide me with a world-class education and invaluable experiences that I can bring back to my community. I aspire to use the knowledge and skills I gain to foster development initiatives in Barkowino and inspire other young people to pursue their dreams. 
I am passionate about this project because I believe education can break the cycle of poverty. It’s not just about personal success; it’s about uplifting my community. I chose NYU Shanghai because of its commitment to global education and diverse perspectives, which I believe will equip me to tackle the challenges my community faces. 
This journey is deeply meaningful to me. It represents hope not just for me, but for my family and all those who have supported me along the way.
