My Travel Story

HEY GUYS!

I decided I'd love to do something good for the world and use my skills, to help children in South Africa learn about sports and the life skills they can get out of it! I'm going to volunteer for two weeks in South Africa in a Sports Development Program with IVHQ.

Here is a quick quote from the program I am doing for you to understand what it's all about.

'Our Sport Development project operates in the same schools as our Teaching and Computer Training projects around the Western Cape region and focuses on developing both the physical skills and general life skills of the children as these schools do not have PE Teachers. Volunteers generally work with children from Grade 1 to Grade 7 and are responsible for the planning and delivery of creative and innovative Physical Education lessons which link directly to the Learning Outcomes and Curriculum set out by the Western Cape Education Department. During the school holidays, a holiday project is organized for the children by volunteers and the local coordinator, which involves a variety of activities aimed at promoting physical, social and personal development.'

I have a passion for sport - and I think I can use this to the benefit of those who are less priveledged in terms of sporting oppurtunities.
I study a Bachelor of Exercise & Sports Science. I also am a Level One Sports Trainer, a touch football referee and - almost - a Personal Trainer. I have worked with children for a long time as a party host as well.
I love sport and the health benefits it gives, though this isn't the only thing. Children learn wonderful life skills from sports - how to stay motivated, how to work in teams, how to work alone, how hard work pays off... the list goes on. Teaching sports to these children can help me extend my knowledge to help those who need it most. I am so passionate about this project.

The trip costs are expensive as South Africa is a fairly big flight trip so I am raising money to cover hopefully at least all of my IVHQ Fees (the registration and the program fee converted from USD to AUD), Visa and Insurance, any extra will be going towards my flight costs (about $1500)!

Your contribution means SO MUCH to me, and I would not have this oppurtunity without YOU!
