My Travel Story

My friends, co-workers, and family talk about their vacation travel, which is about 98% consumption (and airplanes burn a lot of carbon). Given that, I have no problem being "out" about my charitable activity.

My problem -- which I have not figured out yet -- is how much talk is effective for normalizing charity and making it look like something that people in their social circle should do and be proud of, and how much is too much and just opens a gulf and makes other people think "I can't / don't want to be like that".

Even a positive gulf is still a gulf. I don't like it when someone puts me on a pedestal. I want them to join me, not (just) admire me.
