ALOHA!
My name is Savannah Winn, I am a Sophomore at Brigham Young University-Hawaii pursuing a major in Hospitality & Tourism Management.

I have recently been accepted into a study abroad program through the Kennedy Center for International Studies and I am so EXCITED! This is a six week long program in which I will be able to learn from top professionals how to design and manage visitor experiences...in EUROPE!! It's a dream come true! I have already learned so much about this industry through my studies at BYU Hawaii and I am thrilled for the opportunity to use that knowledge and build upon it.

Here is a description of the course I have selected:
"EUROPE & ICELAND EXPERIENCE & DESIGN MANAGEMENT
Join us for the Europe and Iceland Recreation Management study abroad program to twelve countries including Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Netherlands, England, and Iceland. We will have the opportunity to work with and experience European festivals as well as visit recreation venues, such as theme parks, museums, stadiums, theatres, cathedrals, palaces, arenas, conference centers, resorts, hotels, and national parks in many countries. Within these venues we will visit with professionals and learn about how they design and manage the visitor experience. Recently, it has been recognized that venues who design and implement top-notch customer experiences are gaining market share over their competition. Thus, this program’s learning outcomes are focused on helping students understand how to design and manage meaningful experiences in recreational and tourism settings. Analysis of venues and active staged experiences among some of the iconic attractions in Europe and Iceland will serve as the context for student learning."

I love to travel and learn about places and cultures. I believe that we live in a world where people want to and are willing to pay for "experiences". Whether it be a theme park or a hotel resort, visitors are attracted to venues that offer something meaningful, the chance to connect with a culture, time period, team, etc. The design and management behind these "experiences" will make all the difference in creating a top-notch atmosphere for visitors and I am excited for a career that will allow me to be a part of the process.

I have wanted to study abroad since my Freshmen year of college, but I wasn't sure that it would be my reality...until now. This program is expensive, but it will be an invaluable opportunity for me as I work towards my career. The total cost is $8900!  I am trying to earn as much as I can on my own. Between two jobs, I work 25-30 hours a week while going to school full time.  I pay for all of my personal expenses, my car, my rent, tuition etc., which when it's all said and done doesn't leave much extra.

Please consider donating whatever you can...big or small, it ALL helps!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU in advance I am so grateful for your generosity and that you would take the time to learn about me.

I look forward to taking this adventure with you!
