✈️ Moving and Teaching in Spain
My Travel Story
When I first started my college career in 2017, I was certain that I would be some type of scientist or a professional in the medical field. However, being the first one in my family to attend college I had to navigate through the various challenges and obstacles that come with experiencing college at this capacity. I quickly realized that what I thought I wanted to do wasn't actually what I wanted to do. I decided to take my career into my own hands, and follow my passion of learning. I ended up studying philosophy and marketing during my undergraduate career and I absolutely enjoyed the experience of having deep intellectual conversations while also learning what makes people decide on certain things. I also realized that what I really enjoyed most of all was being around people and supporting them. Throughout my undergraduate educational experience, I have always found myself in positions where I was teaching in some capacity. From my first internship as an educator intern for a local nonprofit to a supplemental instructor for chemistry course at my university to becoming the new member educator for my sorority- I was always finding ways to help others learn. During my senior year and amongst this pandemic, I was able to continue this passion outside the classroom. Not only am I an educator, I am also an avid powerlifter. I've been able to share my passion for fitness through my social media platforms and help others by showing them different workout routines and being transparent about my health. Although this doesn't really sound like a teacher, by sharing my story I have been able to educate and help others. As I approached the end of my senior year I saw an opportunity on social media about teaching abroad in a different country. I was really intrigued and decided to apply. To my surprise, I was accepted into the teach in a foreign language program in Madrid, Spain. To be honest, I am absolutely nervous and overwhelmed with this decision. However, travelling has always been something I've wanted to do. Given that in 2020 I was supposed to study abroad in Paris but wasn't able to due to the pandemic. When I saw the opportunity to teach English in a different country I knew that this was the perfect chance to travel and give back to the community. In September I will be moving along with my partner, Yovany, to Madrid, Spain for a year where I will be teaching English to a secondary classroom. I am very excited for this opportunity however, I know that Yovany and I would very much appreciate any help that you would be willing to give. This would allow us to be comfortable in an entirely different country while also having the chance to travel beyond Spain. As a first generation graduate I am excited to do something so ✨different✨and hopefully find more clarity about my purpose in this world. I am currently working as an educator at Lululemon and saving as much money as I can before the trip. Thank you for reading my story. Support comes in many ways- if you can't give, please consider sharing this with others. Thank you again and here's to traveling and doing what you want to do
