Hello everyone,

My name is Briayanna Johnson and I will begin my senior year at Temple University in the Fall of 2019. As a student from Westchester County, New York it has been a privilege for me to study at this institution as a Psychology and African American Studies double major, maintaining a GPA of 3.6. My career goal is to be a licensed clinical psychologist focusing on adolescent development within at risk youth and the black family structure. I have diligently worked towards this goal in my years at Temple University and in the North Philadelphia community.

I am the founder and president of The Association of Black Psychologists Temple University Chapter, an organization devoted to promoting professional and educational opportunities while bringing much needed attention to mental health in the Black community. I also serve on the Board of Directors of DonCARES of Philadelphia, a tutoring and mentoring non profit organization as the Partnership Liaison. For the past two years I have volunteered with Steppingstone Scholars, an educational nonprofit, where I tutor and mentor students using my background in Africology to give students a culturally relevant education. From middle schools, to high schools I have worked with over 100 students, hosting resume building workshops, professional development events, and even created a college resource corner helping students navigate through the college application process. Areas that lack resources like Philadelphia and New York City need much more assistance than they currently receive and it is the youth that suffers most. In addition to these positions, I am a research assistant at the Temple University Child & Adolescent Development of Emotion and Personality Lab. I hope to continue my work in adolescent development and education by pursuing my studies in clinical psychology.

I was recently accepted into a study abroad program in Rome, Italy that will allow me to further pursue my personal, educational and professional goals. Through this program I will have the opportunity to be culturally immersed in a plethora of communities, travel and build relationships with people from all over the world, while still fulfilling my courses as a full time student. I will be able to travel to most of the surrounding European countries such as Spain, France, Greece and many more. Having the opportunity to learn about so many new countries and the their customs  will not only help me academically but I will be experiencing cultures and traditions that many are unable to say they had. However, this trip will not be possible without a lot of sacrifice. I have worked over the past couple of years to garner financial support however, costs of this trip still remain.

This is why I am turning to you-- my family, friends, and communities who have supported my journey and growth for so many years. With your continued support, whatever it may be, it will financially contribute to my tuition, housing, flights and the many other expenses that come with studying abroad. This opportunity could not have come at a better time as my undergraduate experience comes to a close, so please help make this once in a lifetime opportunity possible. Thank you for listening to my story.
