What is FCCLA?
FCCLA is family consumer science club that stands for Family Career Community Leaders of America. This club exposes us to the diverse selection of career opportunities of family consumer sciences, while giving us the chance to compete at regional and state competitions. Our team has competed in Hospitality and Tourism level two at the Region 5 conference, and State conference of Texas. We placed 1st at regionals and 1st at state and now are advancing to nationals in D.C.!

In the Hospitality and Tourism category we are given a strategic rubric that also allows an abundant amount of creative freedom. We found an issue in Hospitality and Tourism career industry, found a solution, and then found ways to make our idea as realistic as possible. Throughout this process we have worked tirelessly gathering research, memorizing our speech, creating visuals, graphics, and our portfolio.

OUR IDEA
The Daily Focus, is for students who feel they don’t have a best fit enviornment, support, and resources for homework, studying, and the future. We created a student targeted study lounge/ cafe with special amenities FOR students. We will have the option to reserve rooms as well as open space with flexible seating and spaces. We researched the different effects on lighting, music, and interior design to help benefit students cognitive thinking. Within our lounge we also will have a cafe with affordable food and drinks from vendors we partner with. Our drink menu AKA “The Career Brew Bar” features evey drink being named after a specific career pathway. On each cup there will be a QR code linking to our website which will provide information about college, careers, scholarships and more. Along with that The Daily Focus will host career coaches who volunteer their time to speak with students one on one as well as group events to help students find support and to better prepare them for life after highschool. Our idea was primarily created because of the struggles we and our peers have faced as students in high school. We have put so much time and effort into the nitty gritty details such as our location, menu, advertising, financials, website, and how our cafe will best support students.

WHAT THIS TRIP MEANS TO NELLI & HARPER
Hello! My name is Nelli Antilla and I am a freshmen in my schools chapter of FCCLA. I have had such an amazing first season through competing with FCCLA. My team & I have had the wonderful opportunity of advancing to state in DC!! This is so important to us because this is what all of our hard work has been for. Our goal simply was to get as far as we can, and right now we have the chance to go all the way. FCCLA means a lot to me because it is teaching me life long skills and giving me first hand experience to better prepare me for my future. I know eventually I want to work with children whether that be psychology, teaching, or nursing. I have made countless friends, memories, and experiences throughout this year, and would love to finish strong!

Hi!! My name is Harper Matlock and I have the incredible opportunity to travel to DC with my team this summer to compete our FCCLA Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation project. Because I am a freshman, this is my first year in FCCLA. FCCLA has brought so much joy, so many lessons, and an immense amount of determination into my life. I have grown my leadership skills and my work ethic throughout this whole process. This opportunity would mean the world to my team and I to be able to showcase our time, creative ideas, skills, and care that we have into our business called, The Daily Focus.
