My Travel Story

by: Alyssa Bates Start Date: Nov 20, 2016 - End Date: Jan 3, 2017
My name is Alyssa and I am currently a student at Illinois State University majoring in Exercise Science, with a masters in Occupational Therapy in mind. I was recently accepted into a program through my university that will allow me to study at the University of Limerick, Ireland, for four months this Spring. Studying abroad has been something I've always wanted to do and being accepted into this study abroad program turns my dream into a reality. Studying abroad will enable me to observe the differences in my field of study, while sharing what I have experienced thus far. As I have begun preparing for my trip, I have realized how quickly expenses have added up. I depend completely on financial aid for my education, and applying for a passport, booking flights, paying housing and application fees, getting international insurance, and purchasing school books has become a financial burden. The possibility of not being able to sublet my current housing situation creates another cost for me to worry about while I am abroad. I myself am working part time while being a full time student to fund this trip. I would really appreciate any help I could get to help me fulfill and experience this opportunity to its fullest extent. Any travel and money saving tips are also appreciated.
