My Travel Story

Hi! My name is Samantha Borden, and I am a sophomore at the University of South Alabama pursing a Business Management Degree with a concentration in Human Resources. Over Christmas break of 2015, I was hit head on by another driver and incurred many broken bones. I required surgery and was unable to walk for almost 8 weeks, because I could not get around easily and used a Rolling Knee Scooter to ambulate I had to drop some credit hours to minimize stress. I am a Presidential Scholar at my university which requires a minimum of 30 credit hours each year, and if I don’t make up this course over the summer I will forfeit all semesters remaining. I looked into courses I could take, and I found the most precious gem, a short study abroad program! Coming from a single parent household, who is also disabled and unable to work, has always put a strain on the “extras” I hope for. I have never truly “traveled” for pleasure or educational purposes, leaving me yearning to leave my footprints all over the world. I have worked so hard in my life to get where I am and to continue bettering myself from there. I graduated 8th in my class out of over 400 students with the highest honors. I am consistently on the Dean`s List in college. I dream to escape my small hometown and travel, experience other cultures, and be more aware of the cultures that surround me. To say I am a passionate young lady would be an understatement. I give 120% of my all into something I want, and this will be no exception. This opportunity provides footing and connections internationally, as well as education on other cultures from the social environments, food, and activities. This will set me apart when I graduate with my Bachelor`s Degree and begin on my Graduate`s Degree. Any amount given to help me reach my dreams are greatly appreciated and truly a blessing!
