My Travel Story

This summer is an exciting one for me; I have graduation, parties, and college move-in! To end my high school career, I've recently thought about traveling again, but also positively contributing to communities while doing it. This has led me to find yet another trip for high-school-aged students to Costa Rica! This trip is solely based on contributing to local communities and learning from the people I interact with. The trip entails staying with a host family (and other students on the trip), learning Spanish with them, learning how to cook traditional Costa Rican dishes, and spending a large portion of each day volunteering for community-based efforts. This means that each day could be different; I could be painting a house one day, picking up trash the next, or taking care of children on another! I believe that having these experiences, especially in a new culture can be very beneficial to seeing things "in a new light". This experience will help me value and understand different cultures and perspectives, while also showing me how lucky I am to be able to help the people that need it most.  After this trip, I will shortly be heading to college and can bring these experiences with me as motivation for helping and being passionate about my future career.
