My Travel Story

by: OLIVIA KATZ Start Date: Mar 4, 2023 - End Date: Jul 3, 2023
Hi All, I am extremely excited to share some details about my program as well as the impact YOU will be helping me make throughout this journey. In June, I will be volunteering in Arusha, Tanzania either Co-Teaching alongside local educators or leading daily lessons for groups of 30-80 students ages 3-14.

First and foremost, I have a passion for education and firmly believe that every child has a right to access quality education. I have built my personal philosphy of Education on the idea of providing each and every student with a learning environment in which they can utilize their individualized strengths both in and out of the classroom. This program allows me to explore an entirely new perspective in which I never thought possible for myself. I am eager to personally grow from this program equally as much as I plan to give to these children, and maximize my experience in order to increase my ability to positively impact my future students. I am a firm believer that a teacher should be a forever student, and luckily my journey is just beginning.

I am excited about exploring a new culture and learning from the people of Tanzania. I believe that immersing myself in a new environment will broaden my perspectives and enable me to grow personally and professionally. I also look forward to meeting like-minded people also joining the program. It's always inspiring to connect with individuals who share my passion for education and want to make a positive impact in the world. I believe that the program will provide a unique opportunity for networking, exchanging ideas, and collaborating on projects aimed at improving the lives of the children in Arusha.

In addition, I am committed to helping the community in more ways than just education. Volunteering in the teaching program would allow me to learn about the culture of Tanzania and explore ways of supporting their children beyond the classroom. Whether it's through community service projects or working with local organizations, I am eager to make a meaningful contribution to the city.

If you would like to learn more about me personally, feel free to look at my bio on my profile. In short, I am currently a full-time honors student majoring in Mathematics and Secondary Education with a Certification in Teaching Students with Disabilities, as well as a minor in Yoga Studies. I am very passionate about education and enjoy spending lots of time with children working in a local school. I am involved with organizations in which my classmates and I are constantly exploring creative teaching strategies that can be used in our future careers. By the time this program begins, I will also have completed my 200hr Yoga Teacher Training and sharing a physical practice within my Community.
