My Travel Story

by: Julie Odler Start Date: Apr 25, 2017 - End Date: Feb 18, 2018

Hi there, pleased to meet you!

This campaign may be a little different than most, because I want to involve my supporters.. to help you feel a part of it all.

I’m planning on staying indefinitely in South Central Europe.  (ok, the Balkans) My home base will most likely be in Zagreb and parts of Dalmatia. (TBD)

There are 4 types of people who may be interested in this project:

1. Those who are interested in this region, or with ancestry in this area. I’ve already been to Zagreb in December 2105, and have been studying BCS (Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian) for about 3 years.  I'm into having a deeper relationship with the culture than a tourist, even when it gets frustrating.

2. Acupuncturists who may want to expand their horizons
I’m an acupuncturist, and fascinated by the idea of practicing Chinese Medicine in Croatia. This will involve some research, including market research, local attitudes about alternative medicine, talking with other acupuncturists in the area, and of course.. dealing with the bureaucracy. (It won’t all be rainbows and unicorns)

3. Women of a “certain age” who are ready for a BIG shift or change in their lives. This ain't "Eat Pray Love" for me, but a welcome and calculated risk that I'm taking. I'm here to make a living by helping those that I can.

I will be writing a book on the details of going through a MAJOR (positive but often scary) life change.

In the meantime, I’m a health coach who helps “middle aged” women do what they love. (Essentially I took the major principles of my acupuncture practice helping women balance their hormones, and took it on the road)

4. Those interested in supporting humanitarian efforts
There could be some of those “humanitarian” projects you often hear about, and to be honest, I’m not sure what that may look like yet. My plate will be full for at least a year, adjusting and building.

Possibilities include community acupuncture via Acupuncturists Without Borders (this could also happen in Greece.. to help Syrian refugees)

It may also take the form of doing other independent projects or community acupuncture in Bosnia.

The PRIMARY purpose of this life project, I won’t lie.. is not about a once in a lifetime trip, or even humanitarian projects, (yet) but to show what is possible. Not just by example, but by actively involving you.. yes you, in this adventure.

That’s why I want to invite you to my Facebook group so you can follow along. I’ll be posting photos, live videos, cool places to see, tips, and maybe even some new BCS phrases for you. You may get to see the good, but also the bad and maybe even the ugly. Really, it depends on you, the supporter and what you would like to see.

I’m intending to make it a living, breathing, evolving entity.

I want to make it worth your while, so I’m all about creating cool donation gifts for you.

This may even involve some of me and my time.. such as a coaching session over coffee, for higher donations. Or even a contact in the Balkans!
