My Travel Story

by: Becca LaFalce Start Date: Dec 13, 2022 - End Date: Apr 12, 2023
Hello! My name is Becca LaFalce, and I am an Applied Linguistics major and Japanese minor at Georgia State University. Since I was in middle school, I wanted to study abroad in Japan when I got to college. This is a dream that I have held for a decade now, and it is finally about to come true. A year ago, I got accepted to a program in Tokyo, Japan, but due to issues with my passport and visas, I was unable to attend. I tried again for the Spring 2023 semester, and I got accepted! I will be taking off for Japan in March of 2023!

I fell in love with the Japanese language at an early age, and have been studying it earnestly since I was 15. However, studying in the United States severely limits me in terms of exposure. I am deeply looking forward to immersing myself in the language and furthering my language studies. While abroad, I am planning to finish my Japanese minor and general credits required for me to graduate with my degree in Applied Linguistics. I am also going to take the opportunity to travel and sightsee, as I have never left the country before! I am also seriously considering teaching English abroad in Japan once I graduate, so I would love to get firsthand experience in the country prior to this.

My school did not provide me with enough money in scholarships and financial aid for me to be able to comfortably afford this trip, despite my meeting all the criteria. This is a dream that I have strived for for half of my life, and I would love nothing more than to make it a reality. Any dollar amount helps! I greatly appreciate your support in helping me reach this goal and further my education. It means the world to me.
