My Travel Story

by: K Gartner Start Date: Oct 16, 2014 - End Date: Feb 12, 2015
For most people fly fishing is a hobby, but, for a select few, it is a profession. Unfortunately, trying to get your first job in the fishing business is the most difficult step. The market is very competitive. It is almost impossible to get a job without a good connection or specialized training. Sweetwater Travel fly fishing guide school will provide me with the necessary experience to land that essential first fly fishing job. The average guide will earn $2,400 a month including tips. All in all the school is an investment into my future and I would love anyone that is willing to help fuel this dream do so by donating. The classes are limited to size so spaces fill up rather quickly. Classes for 2015 will cost $2,400 so that is my goal for this project. The length of the specialized training offered by Sweetwater Travel is 7 nights, 6 1/2 days of training, mostly on the water and they hit the river every single day! A large part of being a competent fly fishing guide is being a competent fisherman. They'll help tone up my following skills: fly tying, knot tying, fly-casting, guiding skills and overall fishing skills. Last year's students had a very high job placement with lodges in Alaska and many states in the lower 48 including Montana, Colorado and Wyoming. I already have all the necessary equipment for this next phase in my life due to my current job at a fly shop in Charleston, South Carolina. I just need this extra boost to obtain accreditation as a fly fisherman that I plan to use in creating a hard working career for myself that happens to be my passion in life. If you want to check out more about Sweetwater Travel and what they have to offer, please take the time to glance over their website.
