I have been accepted to study abroad at the Lorenzo de Medici Institute in Florence, Italy. Yes, this is a personal trip, but it is not just a vacation for me. I am going to study in Italy for the fall semester of 2015. It is a way for me to be fully immersed in art for the degree that I am pursuing, a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts, a Minor in Art History, and a post baccalaureate in Education.  The classes that I am taking are those that are not readily available in Wyoming, and I will get the chance to work on the restoration of fresco works, and learn about the architecture of Florence and of Italy. I will study the artwork that I someday hope to show my students and convey to them as to why art is so important to the world. Without art, music, and literature, we have no inspiration and humanity.

I can always look at artwork online, but the work that I am fascinated with cannot just be seen on a flat screen, and to convey the importance of art to my students I must be able to really tell them what it is like to see Michelangelo’s David, or the Dome of Florence, even to see Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa in Paris. Yes, it will be amazing to stay abroad for a full semester, but I want to be able to focus on my studies and my artwork that I will create over in Italy. Florence has an amazing amount of artwork that is not only beneficial to art history, and those who study it, it also contains an immense amount of educational information that is needed for future students who range from elementary education, to the college level. That is the reason that I want to go to Italy. I want to spread the knowledge that is held in art and let my students become inspired.
