My Travel Story

by: Sarah Rooney Start Date: Aug 14, 2017 - End Date: Dec 13, 2017
Alzheimer's and Dementia are serious illnesses within the Geriatric population and many are not ready for when their family members are diagnosed. I am currently pursuing a degree in Psychology to learn as much as I can about the diseases and their treatments to help others when they or a family member is diagnosed.
I am a non-traditional student, which I feel, means that I have a little more dedication to my craft and am willing to help whereever it is needed.
I have paid mostly out of pocket for my education, save for some federal funding and scholarships and, after paying around $1,000, I have little left over to study abroad.
Any funding would be beneficial to my travels, however, I would like to make the most of this trip, as I will not be able to return to Europe for many years.
While in Leicester, I plan to volunteer with VAL volunteering, working with the geriatric population there and studying at the University of Leicester. With the growing rate of Alzheimer's and Dementia, it can be both heartbreaking and frustrating to watch family members go through this. I want to be that first step for others when they learning about the disease.
After I secure funding, feel free to watch my adventures through my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuLE35uM4LET5eIIxbgsH7Q
