My Travel Story

Hi! My name is Tiffany and I am 17. I have chosen to go with a group of other volunteers to Haiti this coming June. While there I will be working in the Welcome Home Children Orphanage. The Welcome Home Children Orphanage is a registered Canadian charity founded and directed by Camille Otum, a Haitian Canadian who has found a way to give back to her homeland. It is for orphaned Haitian children, who have been neglected, abused, exploited, or simply left behind. This trips serve many purposes such as providing needed supplies to the orphanage, to help on maintenance and renovations at the centre, and to visit and nurture the children and monitor their progress. So why Haiti? Haiti is the poorest country on earth, 1 in every 10 children dies before reaching age 5. Following the devastating earthquake in 2010, the number of orphaned children in the country nearly doubled. This orphanage runs on donations and volunteers; I have been very blessed in my life and feel it is my responsibilty to help those that have not be as fortunate as me. The cost of this mission trip is about $1500, I am going to be working on fundraising in different ways for this money over the next few months in preperation for this trip. Thank you for taking the time to read about my mission trip!
