My Travel Story

Hola,

For those who may not know me, Hi! My name is Sonny and I'm a student at Oklahoma City University studying Political Science with an emphasis in International Relations Pre-Law. I am excited to share that I have been selected to serve for 10-weeks in Quito, Ecuador this summer! During my time in Ecuador I will be serving on a volunteer basis in a professional capacity supporting a local organization in their Community Development sector. During my time as a community development volunteer I will have the privilage of organizing social issue initatives, distributing meals to the food insecure, and working to help restore Ecuador's education infrastructure.

I am eager to learn about and experience the Ecuadorian culture and people. The local organization I am partnered with aims to empower the local people, and help provide tangible effort and skills that will create a sustainable impact...rather than a short-term impact that diminishes upon the departure of volunteers.

Serving has been something that I have always felt called to do. While majority of my service has been on a local and regional level, through mission work in Colorado and Belize, Disaster Relief in Houston after Hurricane Harvey, or refugee work in Kansas City and Oklahoma City teaching English; I understand the importance of global efforts to support humankind, and the application of talents, education, and skills that may be needed abroad. I have confidence that my skills, character, and education will allow me to serve with integrity and selflessness. I look forward to the amazing things the Ecuadorian people are going to teach me, and to be able to admire their culture and homeland first-hand.

I am seeking support in several capacities, including financial. As a volunteer my work will go unpaid, however cost of travel and accomodation will still accrue. My local organization has provided arrangments for housing ($1,100), meals ($600), transportation ($800), and insurance ($300) but are unable to provide the financial support to fund my accomodation. My goal is reflective of the cost that it will take to cover my needs. I sincerely appreciate any support that you may be able to give. If not finacially, in your thoughts, prayers, and by sharing with others.

Con Amor (With Love),
Sonny
