My Travel Story

When deciding where to study abroad, there was no question that I would choose the beautiful city of Barcelona. I am a huge fútbol fan, and enjoy seeing such a rich and blended culture. So even though the native language of Barcelona is Catalan, I decided to take the leap with the IES Abroad Advanced Spanish Studies program. I chose to study abroad because I wanted an experience that would not only enrich my sense of the world, but also give me an edge in my career. My primary goal for studying abroad is not only to enjoy the experience, but to become fluent in Spanish. This academic goal goes beyond classroom conversation; I want to use this tool to communicate with patients and save lives. As a bilingual nurse, I can help patients convey their state of being without the pressure to speak English. Studying abroad will alter my sense of the world greatly, but also offer me the gift of speaking another language. Crossing cultures and building bridges where there is usually silence can touch the lives of people around me; learning Spanish while studying abroad can help me accomplish just that. Please consider chipping in so I can realize not only my goal, but my dream.
