My biggest dream- an student exchange to Ireland
My Travel Story
Next year my biggest dream will come true, I will live in Cork in Ireland for four months from 25.08.2023 to 21.12.2023 and call it my new home. Cork is the second largest city in Ireland after Dublin and is located in the south-west. I will get to know a normal everyday family life in Ireland in a host family and experience the differences between the German and Irish school systems. For example, I will have to wear a school uniform and I might even go to a girls' school.
I've been dying to go abroad since the 5th grade. Who hasn't dreamed of going to school like in a high school film? But I always knew that I found Europe much more interesting and diverse than America, for example. Ireland, that's where I wanted to go. The Irish mentality, customs and traditions, the landscape and even the weather appealed to me. So I had been dreaming about it for a long time.
Since I started my A-level courses (maths and physics) this school year, I knew that a student exchange would be very worthwhile not only for my personal development but also for my further education. Through the student exchange, I have the opportunity to break down language barriers and get to know the everyday Irish language.
After spending every Friday of this school year doing my social work placement in a hospital in the neonatal intensive care unit, it also became clear to me that I would like to do social work in Ireland in order to gain as much insight as possible into different ways of life for my future dream job as a doctor. In addition, I have the opportunity to help people on site and can acquire many different new skills.
I am sure that this stay abroad will contribute a lot to my personal development. Flying alone for the first time, organising something on my own without help. All this will help me become a more independent and reliable person. I will gain unique experiences that will shape me in my life and experience many new things.
So I really wanted to turn my big dream into reality, but I soon realised that it wasn't that easy. I researched various programmes on the internet and quickly realised that such programmes are very expensive and almost no scholarships are offered for Ireland. Therefore, I would be very happy about their support.
I will share many impressions and experiences from my stay in Ireland on my Instagram account so that you can accompany me on my journey. I have linked this in the travel information. I would be very happy about your support!
