Greetings everyone, my name is Jose Grijalva. I'm a Software Engineering Undergraduate Student at ASU. I'm very excited about the opportunity of visiting Tokyo, Japan for a two-week study abroad program starting in May 12th of 2023. For years, I've always wanted to travel to Japan to be able to experience the phenomenal technology over there that I can learn from for my field of major and personal projects but just never had the money to afford the airfare and everything else for it and this program is for my major, which makes it a perfect opportunity for me. I was originally supposed to go to Tokyo, Japan for this same study abroad program back in the Summer of 2020 but unfortunately ended up being canceled due to the pandemic, thus ended up losing grant money for the program I was awarded for.

This study abroad program will benefit me in many ways. Not only will this study abroad program add a lot to my work resume but I will gain a lot of knowledge of the type of techology that companies in Japan produce, learn about Japanese business etiquette that I can potentially use for future jobs in my field of study, and apply the ideas I have formed after looking around at the products from Japanese companies in person into one of my potential personal projects that involve working on a robotics product that helps disabled people and people with learning disabilities because I was once a special needs kid in public schools and understand the difficulties of learning challenging concepts or topics. With my list of personal projects, some of them that will be helped formed by this study abroad program, I hope to contribute to my communities back here in my home area, Maricopa County, Arizona.

Money has been definitely challenge for me lately especially with inflation bumping everything up in cost and have been getting starting on making plans on how to budget my own spending. Having this study abroad program and then an internship experience shortly after this program under my belt are my two biggest goals of 2023 as I am about to complete my undergraduate degree around Summer-Fall 2024. Any donation would be greatly appreciated and I will defintely show donors grattitude by connecting with them and sharing some sovenirs, ideas of my personal projects, and videos of my study abroad experience.
