I am hoping to attend the International Veterinary Medicine (IVM) Program through the World Vets student program. In this program students receive training on preparation and recovery of large and small animals in sterilization surgeries. One of the benefits of the program is that the operations are often free or highly discounted for residents that cannot afford them. This is where my fundraising comes in as most of the cost is airfare and equipment that I will bring which allows the program to continue to offer low cost veterinary care while also educating students in the ways of veterinary medicine. My passion is large animals and I hope to one day be able to attend veterinary school and work as a large animal veterinarian. This cultural experience will enhance my education and give me a reason to brush up on other languages. One of the perks of this program is that it is a hands on medical experience, something that is very difficult to aqcuire while still a full time student. Some of the techniques and procedures we will be learning about are basic laboratory diagnostics including blood and tissue smears, fecal flotations, PCV/TP and urinalysis.
