Teaching in Tanzania
My Travel Story
As a special education teacher who was blessed with a high-quality education growing up in Massachusetts, I've seen firsthand the power education has to open doors. I am passionate about understanding — and working to address — the inequities in education around the world. Every child deserves a quality education, no matter where they live.
Throughout my undergraduate experience and early professional career, I’ve had the opportunity to teach in diverse and often under-resourced settings — from a reservation in South Dakota, to the wide plains of Oklahoma, to a rural community in Mississippi. Each experience has deepened my commitment to creating change, both inside and outside the classroom.
My time in Tanzania will be about partnership — working with local students, learning from their community, and sharing what I can. It’s also about bringing those lessons home, to better advocate for equity and inclusion here in the States.
This trip is also deeply personal. It’s a promise I made. My grandmother, who recently passed away from ALS, dreamed of traveling to Tanzania — and she did. In our last conversation, I promised her I would go too. In many ways, this journey is a tribute to her spirit, her love of adventure, and her belief in the goodness of the world.
If you feel called to support this journey — through a donation, a kind word, or simply by cheering from afar — I would be so grateful. Thank you for helping me honor my grandmother, continue my growth as a teacher, and work toward a future where education is a right, not a privilege.
