My Travel Story

About me: Hello:) I am Madi Baack,18 years old, and am ready to pursue my dreams! I plan on volunteering with the Peace Corps after I get my associate's degree. The Peace Corps will last for at least 2 1/2 years, but hopefully for longer! To prepare, I will be traveling to a variety of countries in the summer of 2021. I aspire to travel to open my viewpoint of the world. The communities will teach and help me as much as I help them, giving each other hope of human nature's kindness from the other side of the world. My goal is to learn the local culture and make connections, "One Place at a Time."

Volunteering: I will be volunteering in Sri Lanka, India, and Bali for 12 weeks with the money I have been working for. In Sri Lanka, there is a devastatingly large about of homeless dogs with a lack of food, shelter, and care. I will be bringing dogs to shelters and then taking care of them by feedings, cleanings, looking for, and caring for illnesses. In India, the practice of karma is prevalent; thus, people with disabilities are seen as a punishment for their past lives. There is a lack of awareness and compassion. I plan on using my differing view to spread love, compassion, and joy to people who need it the most. Bali has some of the most amazing wild animals, animals that are endangered. My duties will consist of cleaning beaches for sea animals and educating the locals on the importance of clean beaches. The island is also in need of litter cleaning for the land animals. The enclosed animals will be fed and cared for by volunteers as well.

Passion: I am pursuing a life of volunteering with programs such as WWOOF, Peace Corps, Habitat for Humanity, and UNV. I will begin these programs after college; as of now, I need to apply myself and gain experience and knowledge to better aid in the future. I have been passionate about this for years and will continue to be.
