My Travel Story

Hi All,
I will be volunteeing in Jordan for 3 weeks starting mid April. I chose a middle eastern country to expeience Ramadan (Muslim fasting month) and become a part of community at a deeper level. I will be part of their Youth Support program which is mainly focused on disadvantaged communities and minorities, providing them with skills, tutoring and assisting them with whatever knowledge could be beneficial for them.

I, myself, am pursuing a major in Aerospace Engineering and I am in my second year. As a student of STEM major, I have experienced low self esteem when trying to do things on my own and hesitated while asking for help. I have also felt confident when I got to work in groups and that taught me reliance on others for something you lack knowledge is not embarrassing. I once was (still am) a receiver of knowledge and skills I lacked at. Getting out of my comfort zone and asking for help was something humilating for me. However, fortunately enough, the people I got to meet during my college years taught me things without making me feel dumb. They encouraged me and boosted my self confidence, and I think now is my duty to give back to those who feel like what I used to feel once. 

I have taken a semester off to re-energize myself for my senior year of college. As a workaholic, it was quite tough to stay at home and relax. Therefore, I want to make most of my break and help where I can. With my skill set, I specifically chose a Youth Program as I believe I can assist people from various backgrounds. As a full time student, I have to pay my tuition on my own therefore embarking on this journey, money is huge bump. But I am also optimistic that together we can make a difference for those whom world see differently.
