My Travel Story

My name is Carly Burnette and I am a junior at North Carolina State University. After graduating and completing a masters in teaching, I want to be a Chinese teacher. I have been studying Mandarin for six years and have fallen in love with it.

This will be my first trip to China and my study abroad group will be visiting Beijing, Hangzhou, and Shanghai. I will be taking International Political Science and Chinese courses during this five-week study abroad trip with North Carolina State University. In addition to taking interesting courses, I will be visiting many historical and cultural sites such as the Great Wall of China, West Lake, and the Shanghai History Museum.

In addition to learning more about Chinese Culture, this trip will immerse me in Chinese, helping my speaking and listening skills as well as lessen the English accent in my Chinese. I am super excited for this opportunity and am determined to improve my Chinese skills. This experience will help me teach the spoken language better after graduating. Anyone who donates will get updates on my trip in real time along will have access to trip photos.
