Ever since I was 14 I've wanted to teach English abroad. Growing up in a tiny town in Michigan, not many people supported my dream. Most didn't think that I would go to college, or even graduate highschool. I've fought hard to overcome the negativity surrounding my dream. I went to college, paying for myself through student loans, pell grant and full-time work.

I'm wrapping up my 2-year degree, and I should be finished next semester. While researching teaching abroad, I found a program to work for the Korean government (TaLK program) which allows students with 2 years of college education to work overseas on a paid internship in South Korea. During the internship, you are free to complete university courses and graduate with a four year degree, which would allow you to continue teaching through the EPIK program.

I've worked hard to save up enough money for my visa and flight, but living on my own has taken everything I've saved. The best thing about the TaLK program is that they pay for your apartment, as well as give you a monthly stipend as you work 20~25 hours per week in a rural Korean classroom.  They also reimburse you for your flight and travel expenses, and help you get your working visa. It's the perfect program for me, and I've already gone through the testing and have been accepted. I'm waiting for the next orientation, which starts in February in order to start the school year in April.

I've come to this website to get funds to help me with my visa, medical examinations and travel expenses. In total I will only need around $2000 in order to get set up for two years of teaching in Korea. I hope that you can help me to realize my dream of teaching English abroad.

I plan on creating a travel, teaching and learning resource blog when I am set up in South Korea, to help encourage others to teach abroad and to show them how.
