My Travel Story

by: Miranda Hunt Start Date: Feb 3, 2015 - End Date: Jun 2, 2015
In the two and a half years that I have been able to call myself a college graduate, what have I accomplished?

This is a question that I ask myself at least once a day. When I really think about it, I have accomplished quite a bit. I'm resourceful, I completely support myself, I'm responsible, I have a good job, I have a nice apartment...the list goes on. These are all things that I'm grateful for, and even proud of. Yet, there is still this giant feeling of "needing something more" that hangs over my head.

I have been a dreamer for...well, forever really. As an avid reader and creative mind, I have been imagining amazing scenarios for my life since I was old enough to think. I long to know the unknown, and become acquainted with foreign people, places and ideas. I long to do things that are fulfilling to myself and others.

Those longings transfer over to the "career" portion of my life as well. This portion of my life is also the one that I have had the greatest difficulty figuring out. I have tried to enoy the desk job life, and have even jumped from one desk job to another. But...it isn't where I belong. Therefore, it's time to take a leap and change not only my career, but my life.

I have toyed with the idea of moving abroad to teach English or do mission work countless times over the past few years. Those thoughts always ended the same way...and that was by telling myself that it was impossible. Now though, I'm thinking that the one thing I have thought is impossible is actually the thing that I'm meant to do.

So, I'm taking the biggest chance of my life. I'm going to pick up and move overseas to live and work. The plan is to obtain my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification in Prague, and the continue to work as an English teacher in Prague and eventually other areas of Europe. I believe that this is something I was made for, and it's time to answer the calling.
